after my first outfit post, i was pleasantly surprised to see the comments.
then i got one i was not happy to see.
from an 'anonymous', saying i was 'way too fat to wear that dress'.
the fact you are anonymous makes me realize you are too afraid to own up.
and the fact you call me fat makes me also realize
you probably wish i looked like any of the following:

the pressure to be a size 0 continues to be a pressing issue for women today
as they look at stick-thin models strutting their bones up and down the runway.
it begins with the designer's demands, only handling sample sizes for a size 0 or 2
(at the most).
runway models are taught to think of themselves as walking hangers. i am not a walking hanger.
how thin is too thin?

diane von furstenburg is a wonderful designer. her sampling sizes circle around size 0.
she is also the president of CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America). she claims that she will help to reduce the super-skinny model issue by requiring more nutritious snacks at fittings and backstage at shows, enforce the minimum BMI and age, and advertise and educate about the issue of eating disorders.
but...ask furstenburg when she is not wearing her president's hat,
and she REFUSES to ever use anything above a size 2.
ironic?
fashion runways ban skinny models...
minimum bmi and age to be a model...
magazines cover to cover with bones...
celebrities following the ugly trend...
we have this strange fascination with it...
70% - 80% OF WOMEN FEEL LIKE THEY ARE FAT.
1 / 4 OF COLLEGE GIRLS HAVE BULIMIC BEHAVIOR AND TENDENCIES.
60% OF WOMEN SUFFER COMPONENTS OF EATING DISORDERS.
google it..research it.
you would be surprised at what you can find.

ana carolina reston was a beautiful brazilian model.
she died in 2006 at the age of 21 from complications from anorexia.
standing at 5'8", she was 88 pounds with a BMI of 13.4.

hila elmalich was a gorgeous Israeli model.
she died on her 34th birthday in 2007 from heart failure due to anorexia.
she was less than 60 pounds.

eliana and luisel ramos were uruguayan models and sisters.
luisel died from heart failure due to anorexia when stepping off a runway.
eliana died only a few months later from similar complications.
they are not the only ones...they are many, many more.
so...you think i need to look like this?

no thanks.
mr. anonymous, you have much to learn.
check yo-self.
breathe peace.

Nice post! Good job!
I love the fact there are women on this planet who can think straight and being thin is not the only thing what matters. Matter of fact it doesn't matter at all! I'm not thin, i'm not slim, i'm just.. hm how can i call it.. thick? I rather see voluptious women then thin women. Rubens women need to get back in this century and fast!
Cuz this is really really fashion gon' bad.
Well put. It's refreshing to see normal and so-called plus-sized models, and I hope the fashion industry changes its policies so that the perception of what's considered beautiful is not limited to a size 0. Because beauty comes in all sizes!
the good thing is..the industry is changing
its a SLOWWWW change though
someday...thanks for the comments!!!
Caroline,
thank you so much for your truthful comment. I appreciate a diversity of opinions, good or bad. And thank you for enlightening me on DVF's stance on models... I've always respected who she was as a person. She was always filled with intellect and incredible things to say. But I more than anything respected her on her journey to becoming a well-respected designer, which is why she's on the border of my blog. I've had my personal struggles with the fashion industry's view of beauty, and I will most definitely be more aware of what I say when I say it, in hopes of becoming more educated. I'm terribly sorry if I offended you, and thanks again.
